A few weeks ago, I shared my favorite recipe for hot cereal. Did ya love it?  If yes, please tell me so—and why. If no, I still wanna hear your thoughts. I love hearing from you. Best ever!

Best Shopping Ever

I used to wait until I noticed that I was running out of stuff to place my Vitacost order, but I’ve since learned that it’s easier, more efficient and more fun to have a weekly ordering day (and that way, I don’t run outta stuff!).

I chose Sunday because (unless we’re traveling) that’s the day I make a buncha food for the week––stuff that keeps well and in fact tastes better with time. Sunday afternoons are also a relaxing, grounding and fun time to “prep” for the upcoming week, energetically and literally.  Read more →

Pets. You got ‘em? Had ‘em when you were little? Wish you had ‘em? Wish you didn’t? Glad you do?

We have a cat named India. She came to us on our son Phoenix’s fifth birthday. Synchronistically, she is 5 too.

I grew up with four cats and a big dog, all of which were strays my sister brought home. Our mom took care of ‘em. Oh, we said we would, my three siblings and I, but Mom did all the work. She’d occasionally threaten to take Chief, our big dog, to the “glue factory” when we weren’t helping. To this day I don’t know what that meant, or if there’s even such a thing as a glue factory, but it would scare me enough so as to motivate me to take better care of our dog.

My friend Dianne gave me a great birthday gift last year. A buncha bath supplies. Not Elmo bubble bath for my plus 5, but nice, soothing lavender bath salts and candles so I could incorporate taking relaxing baths into my life.

I gotta say, it’s a great thing to do for yourself, not just when you’re on vacation or at a spa. It’s a mini getaway right in the middle of your everyday life.

I was teaching at a conference in California, and one of my best friends in the world, DJ, came out and we shared lunch and an afternoon catching up.

I used to babysit for DJ’s daughter many years ago. I was in high school and DJ and her husband, Duane, lived next door. They were there for me many times when my own parents weren’t. Man, I love those guys.

After many hours of chatting and catching up—which melted away like butter in a pan—DJ said to me, “Keep doing what you love, and hold your family close.” Read more →
