Best Hot Cereal Ever—4 New Recipes
Quote of the day:
“All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast.”
-John Gunther
A few weeks ago, I shared my favorite recipe for hot cereal. Did ya love it? If yes, please tell me so—and why. If no, I still wanna hear your thoughts. I love hearing from you. Best ever!
After discovering how much my five kids and I enjoy hot cereal with protein powder for breakfast (shhhhh … they don’t know about the protein powder!), I started experimenting with more recipes. Here are a few variations I think you’re gonna love.
Brown Rice Hot Cereal
1 cup brown rice hot cereal
1 to 2 scoops egg white protein powder (vanilla flavor)
3 cups unsweetened almond milk
1/4 tsp. Himalayan fine salt crystals
In a large saucepan, bring almond milk and salt to a boil. (Note: Add salt while the almond milk is still cold.) Stir in cereal. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally for about 2 minutes, or until slightly thin (cereal will thicken substantially later). Turn off heat and stir in protein powder. Add coconut crystals to taste. Cover and let stand for a few minutes before serving.
Polenta Cereal
1 cup organic corn grits (polenta)
1 to 2 scoops raw protein powder
3 cups whole grain rice milk
1/2 tsp. Himalayan fine salt crystals
In a large saucepan, bring rice milk and salt to a boil. (Note: Be sure to add the salt while the almond milk is still cold.) Stir in corn grits. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally for about 20 minutes, or until slightly thin (cereal will thicken substantially later). Turn off heat and stir in protein powder. Add coconut crystals to taste. Cover and let stand for a few minutes before serving.
Multigrain Hot Cereal
1 cup organic corn grits (polenta)
1 to 2 scoops raw protein powder or egg white protein powder (vanilla flavor)
3 cups whole grain rice milk
1/2 tsp. Himalayan fine salt crystals
In a large saucepan, bring rice milk and salt to a boil. (Note: Be sure to add the salt while the almond milk is still cold.) Stir in corn grits. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally for about 10 minutes, or until still slightly thin (cereal will thicken substantially later). Turn off heat and stir in protein powder. Add coconut crystals to taste. Cover and let stand for a few minutes before serving.
Spruced-Up Instant Oatmeal
4 packets of any instant oatmeal
1 to 2 scoops raw protein powder
3 cups rice milk
1/2 tsp. Himalayan fine salt crystals
Follow package instructions to make instant oatmeal, using heated rice milk instead of water. Add salt before pouring on rice milk. Stir in protein and add coconut crystals to taste. Cover and let stand for a few minutes before serving.
