June 1: What’s Hot (and Not) in Health Today

What’s hot (and not) in health today? Let’s explore the latest health trends and info, including brain foods, skin solutions and ketchup controversy.

Hot:

Canned salmon. Need extra vitamin D in your diet? (Most of us do.) Canned salmon is a great way to consume more of this essential nutrient – AND it’s also an excellent source of brain-healthy omega-3 essential fatty acids.* Around the office, we love St. Dalfour Wild Salmon with Vegetables.

Royal jelly. This product is fit for a queen, but (luckily) available for everyone. Royal jelly is a creamy, milk-like substance produced by bees that has been used for thousands of years for cosmetic and skin purposes.*

Celery root juice. Give your diet a boost by pouring yourself some celery root juice. This unique beverage is made from the root of the celeriac plant (also known as knob celery). It contains calcium and filling fiber, and may promote normal pH balance.*

Not:

High-fructose corn syrup. Also known by its new name, corn sugar, HFCS is making a comeback in ketchup. Apparently, demand for HFCS-free ketchup just wasn’t measuring up, so Hunt’s has reverted back to their old formula. We’ll stick to organic ketchup, thankyouverymuch.

Super-size sodas. New York City is attempting to curb obesity among its residents – by cracking down on the consumption of sugary soda. The ban would limit single servings to no more than 16 ounces – in venues such as restaurants and movie theaters. It’s never a good idea to slurp down a giant soda, but how do you feel about government banning specific beverage sizes?
