Q. I’m a new mom and I am not getting ANY sleep. I have these awful dark circles under my eyes that I never had before. Is there a way I can look less exhausted?
Dr. Linda Miles L. Ac., D.O.M. responds:
One of the most common questions I get asked is, “how do I get rid of dark under-eye circles?”
First and foremost, we need to understand why those dark circles appear. Basically, they are calling out an internal imbalance that needs to be corrected. You cannot get rid of dark under-eye circles completely until you identify this imbalance and correct it.
In Chinese medicine, the appearance of dark under-eye circles is caused by a “kidney deficiency,” which is not seen as the organ that filters our fluids, but as a set of functions that regulate the aging process, from birth to death. This deficiency can be overcome with herbs and acupuncture. Many allergy sufferers also experience these dark under-eye circles because, again, the body is responding to an internal imbalance. Additionally, those of us who are highly stressed and suffer from sleep disorders may have dark under-eye circles. There are several other reasons for these, but they all signify some type of imbalance.
While you should work towards correcting the imbalance, there are topical solutions that can help reduce the appearance of dark under-eye circles.
derma e® has formulated our new Evenly Radiant™ Dark Circle Eye Crème with blood moving herbs, antioxidants and mineral pigment zinc oxide to help visibly reduce the appearance of dark circles. For maximum benefits, gently massage the crème from the inner corner to the outer edge in a half circle under the eye area to stimulate the flow of blood and lymph. Regular use of this Evenly Radiant™ Dark Circle Eye Crème will promote younger, brighter, and healthier-looking eyes.
So remember, while topical products can help reduce the look of dark under-eye circles, try to address the internal imbalance as well, get plenty of sleep and minimize stress through activities such as meditation and yoga for more rested and radiant looking eyes.
