On the road again? It’s summer, so many of us are. Whether you’re off on an island adventure or soaking up the rays as a city sightseer, being away from home—and your gym—can slow down or even stop your exercise routine. But you don’t have to let a little vacation lead to big setbacks with your fitness goals.
If your destination doesn’t have the equipment you need for your usual workout, these classic moves can be subbed in to help you maintain your physique while you’re away from home.
Any chair, coffee table or even a bed is all you need for these effective upper-body shapers. To get in proper form, sit first. Position your hands at your sides, and grasp the edge of the chair or table. Now step away so your rear end is floating, and bend your elbows to a 90-degree position. Push yourself back up to starting position, engaging your arms and locking your elbows.
Simple yet powerful, squats are good for working all your major leg muscles. Stand with your feet positioned slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, with hands on your hips. Bend your needs, pushing your rear end out and squatting until you reach 90 degrees at the knee. Come back up, then repeat.
Make friends with the floor for a full-strength workout for your chest, abs, arms and shoulders. Basic push-ups involve merely lying down on your stomach on the floor and propping up your body on your toes. Now push yourself away from the floor, and repeat. Too tough? Try working with your knees bent, rather than balancing on your toes.
Keep your abs in awesome shape with sit-up sessions. Need a refresher? Lie down on your back with your knees bent, then lift your body forward and up, reaching forward to touch your toes. If you need extra support, tuck your toes under a dresser or a bed frame.
Travel doesn’t just interrupt your exercise routine—you may be facing serious diet setbacks on your trip. Be sure to pack Six Star Whey Protein Plus and a shaker cup and snacks such as protein bars, nuts and seeds, to keep you from splurging on fast food and vending machine junk.
