Are you getting enough protein? If not, there’s no shortage of powders to help you up your intake. They’re convenient, easy to use and can be measured so you know exactly how much you’re getting in every shake. But not all protein powders are created equal. You may choose a product for its ideal protein content only to discover it tastes terrible and mixes up with clumps.
Try ARO Whey Complex in Natural Vanilla flavor.
Before you spend another dime on a less-than-delectable powder, here are a few favorites I rely on and recommend to clients for outstanding flavor, texture and quality.
Cellucor Whey Protein – I was first drawn to this line of protein powders for the name of one of its flavors: Peanut Butter Marshmallow. Boy, did it deliver. Not only is it great tasting, it’s off the charts for mixability and creaminess (yum!). You get 25 grams of protein per serving, plus branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), with only 1.5 grams of fat, 3 grams of carbs and 1 gram of sugar. I also like that it contains fewer ingredients than many other protein powders on the market.
About Time, Nighttime Recovery Formula – This powder contains casein protein, which makes it ideal for taking in the evening. The best word to describe it is clean. Its flavor is pure and simple—no artificial taste or aftertaste. Stevia is used as a natural sweetener, and the fat comes from coconut oil, so it’s a healthy fat your body can use. One scoop supplies 24 grams of protein, 5 grams of carbs and 4 grams of fat plus BCAAs, digestive enzymes and melatonin to help support healthy sleep.* I love the Peanut Butter flavor, but Chocolate comes in a close second.
Syntha 6 – If you’re looking for a top-notch protein to support muscle building, Syntha 6 is the perfect choice.* It’s a little higher in calories (200), fat (6 grams) and carbs (15 grams) than other powders, but you also get fiber, BCAAs, MCTs, EFAs, glutamine peptides and non-essential amino acids. This powder makes an extra-thick, creamy shake you’ll enjoy in flavors such as Chocolate Milk Shake and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
ARO Black Series Whey Protein – What I like best about this new line of protein powders from Vitacost is that it doesn’t contain artificial dyes or color, it’s gluten free and it has an outstanding nutrient profile. You get a whopping 30 grams of protein per two-scoop serving, with only 3.5 grams of fat and 5 grams of carbs, plus essential vitamins and minerals, fiber and MCTs.
Gaspari Nutrition MyoFusion Elite – Here’s another powder that caught my attention for its tempting flavor name: Peanut Butter Cookie Dough. I received a sample at the gym and became immediately hooked. The taste is simply amazing, and it’s gluten free. It blends up light and fluffy for a truly enjoyable shake that delivers 25 grams of protein and BCAAs, with only 3 grams of fat and 5 grams of carbs.
Allmax Isoflex Whey Protein – I can’t say enough good things about this protein powder. The texture is extra-light, almost airy, and the taste is very clean. It mixes well, with a smooth consistency and no clumps (but never watery). My favorite part is that is has zero fat grams and only 115 calories while delivering 27 grams of protein! Each serving also includes BCAAs and glutamine so you don’t have to add your own.
