Spicy Avocado-Horseradish Spread

If you’re in the mood for mild, move on. This recipe is for the more adventurous sandwich maker, craving a kicked-up spread to slather on in place of boring butter or bland mayonnaise. It starts subdued, with a creamy mashed avocado and a splash of fresh citrus juice. But the fire is ignited when a spoonful of horseradish is swirled in. Not only will your taste buds tingle, you get the healthy benefits of this spicy root, known for lending intense flavor to dishes without adding fat or cholesterol.

Spicy Avocado-Horseradish Spread

Serves 2

Ingredients

1 avocado, peeled and mashed
2 Tbsp. prepared horseradish or freshly grated horseradish
Juice of ¼ lemon
Juice of ½ lime
¼ tsp. cayenne pepper or black pepper, to taste

Directions

1. In medium-sized bowl or blender, combine all ingredients.

2. Mix well.
