Baby, it’s cold outside! Bundle up and brew a mug of minty hot cocoa to keep your belly happy and hands toasty warm. Powdered packet mixes don’t compare to this delightful steamy drink, made with almond milk, rich cacao and a pinch of pure peppermint. Simmer on your stovetop until bubbly, and let the chocolate-mint bliss begin!
Chocolate is a serious weakness of mine. It’s a little scary how a small square of that indulgent, rich deliciousness can change my entire mood. Turns out, I’m not crazy, there’s actually a physiological reason (I KNOW, I was relieved, too!), as recent studies have found that eating dark chocolate in moderate amounts reduces cortisol and catecholamines, the hormones related to stress and anxiety.
One of the best ways to cool down when the temperature heats up is a good, old-fashioned ice pop. But those syrupy, neon numbers from the supermarket freezer case aren’t what your kids (or you!) need. Make your own sweet, frozen treats on a stick with fresh fruit and juices—or try my recipe for Nutella Ice Pops (yes—you read that right! NUTELLA ice pops!).
Before peeling back the foil seal on another tiny plastic tub of pudding, give this recipe a try. This creamy, chocolaty dessert is not only divine, it’s packed with superfood nutrition from organic cocoa, raw cacao nibs and chia seeds. A whirl in the blender and a quick chill in the fridge are all it takes to transform five simple ingredients into a dessert that’s always OK to splurge on!
Popcorn is a perfect light, crunchy summertime snack. Plus, it only costs about 16 cents per serving—you can’t beat that when you’ve got a bunch of hungry kids hanging out at home. Rather than oil and the traditional stovetop method, I like to use an air popper, which I place outside to keep the heat (and the kids) out of the kitchen. After popping up a big batch, I sprinkle on one of my homemade seasoning blends to transform boring, plain-old puffs into a super satisfying sweet or savory snack.
