As we get closer to the winter holidays, many of us are making our shopping lists – and checking our bank accounts as well. What can you do if you want to save money while eating healthy? We’ve got the scoop on the answer: Buying in bulk.
Whether you’re stocking up for Thanksgiving or want to have a wealth of goodness for those after-school snacks year-round, here are some great deals in the bulk virtual aisle at Vitacost.
Today, as I was driving down the street listening to my littlest cackling at the movie she was watching from the back seat (don’t judge me, my moments of peace are few and far between), my mind wandered to the day I met my husband. My first thought was, “I don’t ever want to forget how amazing that day felt.”
If you’re a coffee drinker—you know. A cup of it is like gold in your hands every morning as you shake off sleep and start your day. The enticing, unmistakable aroma lures you in passing by coffee shops on the street or at the mall. It’s a connection with friends. It’s a treat after a rich meal. It’s exactly what you need when that afternoon slump kicks in and you’ve got to be on your toes until 5 p.m.
It’s up and at ‘em bright and early—then go, go, go non-stop through the day—now that the school year’s underway. Our twins, who are entering their senior year in high school, head straight to gymnastics or the dance studio after a full day of classes, not returning home until 9:30 p.m. Then it’s time for dinner, homework and a little sleep before bolting out the door to do it all over again. We’re not big coffee drinkers, but when an extra kick is needed in the morning, I like to make one of these energizing yet nourishing smoothies.
Some people remember the first time that they drove a car, got a dog or stayed up all night. One of my most memorable moments: My first cup of coffee! I was in my first year of college at UCLA and invited to the local café by a senior (wow!). I doctored up that brew with cream and sugar, took a deep breath, and sipped. That heavenly taste of rich, creamy coffee captivated me. And although I don’t remember the name of the guy, I definitely remember the flavor of that brew. I’ve been a coffee queen ever since.
The vast majority of us start the day with a cup (or three) of coffee. Surprisingly, coffee is a great source of antioxidants. Coffee can be beneficial to health and weight loss efforts when consumed at the right times, without adding excessive amounts of sugar and fat. Most flavored coffee drinks have the nutritional profile of a banana split, but these five recipes provide a tasty twist to your morning routine that will keep your mouth and waist line happy.
