BB Creams are the newest miracle product to hit the beauty scene. First appearing in the Western beauty market only a short year ago, many traditional beauty Bombshells are still trying to understand why they’ve caused such a commotion. Let’s talk about the ABCs of BB creams and find out what they can do for you and your beauty routine.
Germs are everywhere, but sometimes we don’t consider the fact that germs and bacteria actually live on our skin. We’re all aware that we need to wash our hands frequently, follow basic food safety practices and avoid touching people and objects that we know are infected with our bare hands. We tend to think of bacteria as germs that cause illnesses; however, new studies suggest that a healthy amount of normal bacteria can help prevent diseases. When it comes to our skin, though, we often associate bacteria with breakouts, clogged pores and congested skin.
We all know life can be very expensive, from monthly bills to everyday costs; things add up and can hit your budget hard. Often, you may find yourself left with little cash for “extras” like beauty basics, cleansers, moisturizers and sun protectants. The best thing to do is become a beauty budget guru by looking for specials online, signing up for newsletters and staying connected with your favorite brands. Frequently, special offers and great deals are given to Facebook fans, through Twitter and via email. By keeping up with the brands you love, you can save money and look fabulous while doing it. Developing a beauty budget is essential to keeping up your good looks without breaking your bank.
At the end of a long day, you know what you need to do: take it off, take it all off. I’m not talking about your clothes (although you probably don’t want to go to bed fully clothed.) I’m talking about your makeup.
Cosmetics might make your eyes pop and your lips shine during the day, but if you don’t remove every speck at night, you could end up clogging your pores and getting blemishes. Of course a new breakout will mean needing to cake on more concealer the next day, giving you more to remove at night or else risking more blemishes the next day. It’s a viscous cycle!
It’s time to stop the madness. Here’s a guide to removing makeup the right way, and also a shortcut for those nights when you get home late and just want to collapse in bed—and worry about the mascara smudges on the pillow in the morning.
Q: I am an African American woman and would love some tips for naturally caring for my skin. Thanks!
MyChelle Dermaceuticals licensed esthetician Catie Wiggy replies:
This big, beautiful world we live in encompasses people from all walks of life and numerous ethnic groups and cultures. Each group tends to have certain generic characteristics in regards to eye, hair and skin color. Skin can be the fairest of fair to a rich, beautiful, dark hue and everything in between, and here at MyChelle we believe all skin colors are uniquely beautiful!
It happens to the best of us: the bottle was empty, you had none with you, you just plain forgot. Going without sunscreen, even for just a few minutes on a scorching summer day, can leave you with a look closer to “lobster” than “bronzed sun goddess”—definitely not flattering. But is it fixable? Is there a way to make sunburn fade faster, or to cover it up so you can keep wearing cute sundresses without being mistaken for a crustacean in costume?

Q: I have amassed a pretty decent makeup “collection.” Which items do you, as an esthetician, consider absolute must-haves?
MyChelle Dermaceuticals licensed esthetician Catie Wiggy responds:
Every woman has a makeup item she can’t live without. From cherry red lipstick to volume-increasing, lash-extending mascara, we all have something we believe completes our look. At any given time, my makeup bag is packed with subtle pink lip gloss, mineral powder with added sun protection and a neutral bronzer—among other various cosmetics. But one thing my beauty bag is never without is MyChelle Pistachio Coconut Love Your Lips Balm.
