Different smells remind us of people, places, things – even seasons. When it comes to perfume, my preferences vary throughout the year; heavier, warmer scents in the winter and light, airy fragrances during spring and summer.
Because changing seasons can also mean changing skin chemistry, it’s definitely a good idea to switch up your signature scent when the temperatures heat up. Here are some of my favorite fragrances for the summer season — each is made with natural, non-chemical ingredients:
When you first bring your newborn baby home from the hospital, the high you’re on is just impossible to describe. You’re in love! You don’t want to close your eyes for a second—you just need to take in every funny little face she makes, every gurgle, sneeze and yawn.
But then a few weeks pass, and one day you realize you’ve been operating on coffee, adrenaline and fumes for nearly a month. And you do have vague memories of what it was like to be able to sleep. Those were good times. That’s when you wonder: will your baby ever let you get in a solid block of shut-eye again? You know that non-clumping mascara you love? That irresistibly tingly lip gloss? The puffy under-eye circle cream? They all have one thing in common: chemicals. All those dazzling effects come at a high price (and I’m not talking about sticker tags, here).
In order for many beauty products to work their magic, manufacturers add substances such as sulfates (which make extra-bubbly body washes), phthalates (for less-stiff hairspray), lead (to make lipstick “pearly”), parabens (to keep bacteria at bay) and fragrances (which may be concocted from a shocking number of chemicals, expertly blended to make you smell just like a fresh-picked flower).
