Hair has it pretty rough, when it comes to beauty. With all that washing, blow drying and flat ironing, not to mention highlighting and color treatments, it’s no wonder your tired tresses are ready for a trim after six short weeks. If you wait longer, those straggly strands start to rebel. Smooth and shiny becomes frayed and frazzled, making hair harder to style and keep in place. At the bottom of it all—split ends sprout, traveling up the shaft and leading to that look we all dread the most (aaack…not frizz!).

Calling all wavy-haired beauties and curly-haired charmers! Your hair is beautiful. (You probably already know that, though.) And your hair is unique, too – it requires special care with products made specifically for wavy or curly hair. Hate flyaway strands and frizz? Then you’ve probably considered salon processes like keratin and the “Brazilian Blowout,” which transform the coarsest curls into sexy, silky straight strands and minimize time spent on blow-drying, styling and flat-ironing. Depending on your hair type, the treatment process you choose and your lifestyle, you can keep that straighter-than-straight look for three months or even longer!

The summer heat and humidity can can wreak havoc on your hair – turning silky curls into frightening frizz and smooth, straight locks into a flat, matted-down mess. What’s a girl to do?

Back in college, I had a girlfriend who had to-die-for long, thick, wavy hair. She wasn’t shy about sharing her secret. Every week, on Sunday evenings to be exact, she poured an entire cup of warm olive oil over her head, turbaned up with a warm towel and went about her business for a few hours (at home, of course) before washing it out. A little strange, I thought, but easy enough. I decided to give it a try.
Winter can do a number on your hair. Dry air, snow, rain, indoor heating, the list is long and tiresome, just like your hair these days. If you don’t want to throw in the towel and wear a hat every day, or you have been wearing a hat every day and people are starting to talk, it’s time to breathe some life back into your hair care.
Know what I love? Walking out of a salon with a freshly shampooed, styled and fabulously shiny head of hair. Every so often, the stylist will talk me into taking home a bottle of professional salon-strength shampoo or conditioner – so I can achieve the same shine and softness at home. But the problem is, those products are typically way too expensive to buy on a regular basis!
