Beauty news flash: “oil free” is on its way out. What’s been long feared as a pore clogger and pimple trigger is now being slathered on, soaked up and raved about for surprisingly opposite effects. Oil hasn’t always been considered the bad guy. In fact, women throughout history have relied on it to soften skin and smooth hair—long before little bottles of the stuff conveniently started showing up on store shelves.
Vitamin D is a wonderful, healthy benefit of the warm summer sun rays. Sunburns are not. The minor repercussions of sun overexposure include dry skin, premature aging, and skin discoloration. The major risk, as we all know now, is skin cancer. As someone who is extremely fair skinned (and I mean I don’t turn a color besides red, after which I peel and turn fish belly white again) I can’t mess around and be all lazier-faire about my sun exposure.
Q. I hear a lot about hyaluronic acid for skin care. What exactly is it? How does it work?
Dr. Linda Miles D. O. M. responds:
Hyaluronic acid is a remarkable, multi-benefit ingredient in skin care, so it’s no wonder you are hearing a lot about it. With magazines, TV shows, even Dr. Oz touting hyaluronic acid, it really has become a must-have in skin care products for those who want rich, superior moisture as well as anti-aging benefits.
By the end of the day, your bed starts to look like a mini paradise waiting for you at the end of the hall. But before you can cozy in, there are still a few things you need to do. Lock the doors, switch off the lights and—oh yeah—get that stiffened mascara, smudged eyeliner and smeared foundation off your face.
Shampoos and serums and makeup remover, colorful polish and skin that feels smoother / nothing is better than beauty in spring / these are a few of my favorite things!
The temperatures are rising, the sun is shining, and lately I’ve been thinking about all my favorite beauty products for spring! So I thought now would be the perfect time to share them with you…
There’s nothing wrong with getting older, in fact, we should be celebrating every year more we get because some have not been so lucky. I have a dear friend who always says, “Don’t be sad about your birthday, it’s better than not having one.” She’s right. I want to age gracefully. I’m not saying I’m looking forward to watching the youth slide right off my face (because I know it will), but I’d rather my children learn from me that growing older means growing wiser, not uglier. Grace and beauty, for me, mean not rushing to the plastic surgeon for Botox and face lifts, but acknowledging my skin needs a little more help now than it did in my twenties.
The worst of winter is over (knock on wood!), which means you can finally ditch the wooly coat and push those black, burgundy and dark gray duds to the back of your closet. But your wardrobe isn’t all that needs refreshing with the upcoming change of seasons. It’s time to switch up your skincare routine now that spring is here!
