Motherhood is a sport that requires energy, mental toughness, patience and a laundry list of other traits. Before you fall apart thinking that you could never possibly be this idealistic super mom, I’m here to tell you that you can achieve the physical and emotional fitness every mom needs. All you have to do is exercise!
On September 30th, I sat in the hotel restaurant with my grandpa, mom, aunt and cousin recapping the events of the day. As I was growing up, my mom used what I would call “tough love” to teach me several important life lessons. But of course, I didn’t realize how important this tough love was until I was able to look back on what I’d learned and discover how it helped me grow and move forward.
Have you ever been hit on the foot with a baseball bat? An aluminum one? I hope not. Because my 1 1/2 year old just threw a bat on my foot while he was having a tantrum, and it really hurt. I might have screamed some profanities. Charlie’s not really talking yet, beyond “Mama” and “Bmmm-ah!” (kiss-blowing), but with my luck, tomorrow he’ll tell his preschool teacher, “#@!%#.”
As I saw stars and hopped helplessly around our house, I thought of all the other injuries I’ve suffered at the hands of my adorable children:
Friends of ours are new parents – to identical twin boys who were born two months early.
I know all parents make changes and sacrifices. Big ones, like never again being able to sleep in (this scares me!) And small ones, like losing the luxury of eating a meal while it’s still hot. (I think I’m OK with that one.)
But I’ll admit that the total magnitude of parenthood was lost on me until I saw these two in action. Read more →
