Is it just me, or is the color orange flooding the atmosphere a little early this year? Not that I’m complaining. I’ll pin pumpkin recipes and share cute costume pics all September long—then get crafty (or at least imagine I will) come October. But when it comes to my beauty routine, autumn’s early invasion goes beyond the usual social pinning, liking and…dreaming.

Q. I am in my mid-thirties and my skin is still breaking out! What do you recommend?
Dr. Linda Miles D. O. M. responds:
A. More and more, adults in their 30s, 40s and 50s are suffering from breakouts. Don’t worry. With some key lifestyle adjustments and effective topical blends, a holistic approach can help you achieve clearer, healthier, more balanced skin faster than you think.
Q: What is the best way to treat already-formed, deep wrinkles? Can topical products really help?
Licensed esthetician Catie Wiggy of MyChelle Dermaceuticals responds:
Wrinkles are an inevitable part of the aging processes. As we get older, fine lines and wrinkles start to form on the skin, and the battle for a youthful appearance begins. As Mark Twain once said, “Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.” This is true; but we all get wrinkles, and they appear on the skin for a whole host of reasons.
Campus lifestyles are beyond busy with full class schedules, lively social activities, nail-biting sporting events and, of course, intense study sessions. Maintaining healthy habits is essential to looking good and feeling great, but let’s face it: the classic campus routine is a wild combination of events and tasks, leaving little time for rest, relaxation, healthy eating or exercise. Not having the right balance is a top reason for health problems — including sickness, stress and skin issues.
Q: I am an African American woman and would love some tips for naturally caring for my skin. Thanks!
MyChelle Dermaceuticals licensed esthetician Catie Wiggy replies:
This big, beautiful world we live in encompasses people from all walks of life and numerous ethnic groups and cultures. Each group tends to have certain generic characteristics in regards to eye, hair and skin color. Skin can be the fairest of fair to a rich, beautiful, dark hue and everything in between, and here at MyChelle we believe all skin colors are uniquely beautiful!
In today’s fast-paced world we tend to get up and go, go, go. Downtime often doesn’t exist, which can make fitting in a consistent, healthy skincare routine tough. With the daily hustle and bustle, it’s not unusual for skin to become worn down and dull looking. That’s why it’s important, even when it seems you don’t have a minute to spare, to give your skin the attention it needs.
If only there were a real fountain of youth or magic wand that could instantly reverse skin aging. Ahhh, that’d be the life, wouldn’t it? Sadly, they just don’t exist. Bar none, the best strategy against fine lines, wrinkles and dull, aging skin is prevention—regardless of your age, it’s never too late! At MyChelle, we believe there’s beauty in aging and we’re all about embracing it—even if you have to wrangle with a wrinkle or two along the way.
