Spring is almost here, and what a great time to start adding in more cooling, refreshing foods, especially if you’ve been cooped up all winter. While getting back outdoors sounds appealing, spring is the season when pollen and other irritants fill the air, triggering allergies for many people. To ward of sniffles and sneezes, try drinking a glass of green juice daily, or even a few times a week. Packed with nutrients, it’s an easy (and delicious!) was to flood your immune system with supportive nutrients so you’re armed when allergens start to fly.
Being cooped up all winter is no fun. Now that spring is (finally!) here, why not take advantage of the beautiful weather and get outside for some fresh air, sunshine and exercise? There are endless fun and creative ways to work out outdoors—most of which won’t cost you a thing. So slather on some sunscreen, fill up that water bottle and try these ideas to get moving outside the gym or home.
Q. How should my skincare routine change from winter to spring?
MyChelle Dermaceuticals licensed esthetician Catie Wiggy responds:
The days are getting warmer and the delicate aroma of flowers and fresh green grass has started filling the air. That’s right—spring is here! With the seasons changing, now is also a good time to make important changes to your skincare routine. So what are you waiting for? Let’s spring clean your skincare routine.
Spring Break, not for naught, is typically seen as the time when college kids disconnect their brains while us grown-ups get stuck doing terribly unglamorous things like cleaning closets and washing the walls. And Bombshells with younger kids are faced with the daunting task of entertaining them while they complain about how their best friend is headed to Borneo for five days while they’re stuck at home in Lame-ville.
Life is never stagnant, so why would you be? It’s time to change it up, bring something new and fresh into your life. Breaking out of your routine breathes new life into you. The neuro-pathways of your brain will be stimulated in new and different ways, creating a rejuvenation of sorts. You’ll see life through a different lens, with renewed vigor and increased positive feelings toward yourself and others.
Uh oh, sounds like allergy seasons is upon us. This year, keep the sniffling and sneezing at bay by following these easy tips to avoid both outdoor and indoor triggers.
Quote of the day:
“Springtime is the land awakening. The March winds are the morning yawn.”
I’m blown away by Mother Nature, and I bow to her daily; but even more so during spring. It’s astounding to me how, when we “spring ahead” with daylight saving time, everything changes. Everything! It’s energetic. And it infiltrates every aspect of life. And that makes sense, because the light changes everything. It’s a metaphor, people. Do you see it?
My five kids have more energy (is that possible?). I have more energy (is that possible?). Light begins to stream through the windows at the end of my daily, predawn open practice at Prana Newton. My Sunday 11 a.m. hour of power at Prana Newton usually sells out, but now the sun and warm spring air beckons many a yogi outside, and you can get a spot to practice.
As I back outta my driveway at 4:15 a.m. every morning, the green buds are peeking through the earth just a bit more, and my heart skips a beat. It’s a miracle. Every spring they appear. And fill our world with beauty. Quietly. Effortlessly. Powerfully. Without asking for anything in return.
