I love fall weather. Just stepping outside and feeling the cool, crisp air instead of the humid stickiness of summer instantly energizes me. Now is a great time to switch up your workout routine and take advantage of the nice weather before the chill of winter sets in. There are plenty of exercises you can take outdoors, and some creative activities you can do for a good workout and some fall fun. Here are a few of my favorites:

When you’re trying to lose weight, it can feel like there’s always something getting in the way. From a busy schedule that keeps you from preparing healthy meals to a lack of low-calorie food options everywhere you go, obstacles seem to pop up constantly, making what’s already a big enough challenge even harder. With battling cravings, cutting down portion sizes and exercising as much as your week allows—why should you have to struggle with something as simple as finding decent-tasting food that works with your diet plan?
Getting ready for my last competition, I would make my daily trek to the supermarket and head straight for the fish counter once inside. Unfortunately, to get there, I had to pass through the bakery with its aroma of fresh breads and desserts, the overflowing cheese cases and all sorts of other food displays that called to me as I hustled by. As much as I tried to stay focused, there were days I couldn’t resist browsing and making mental notes of what I would splurge on once my dieting phase came to an end.
What’s for breakfast? If you’re trying to lose weight, it may feel like you’re stuck eating the same bland, boring, low-calorie meal day after day. This morning, try something different! These protein-packed, homemade pancakes can be whipped up quickly with a whole-wheat pancake mix, fiber-rich (and filling) quick oats and egg whites. Replace sticky, thick syrup with reduced-sugar strawberry jam for sweetness without all the extra calories.
Losing weight is rarely easy. From mid-morning munchies to unexpected lunch outings with coworkers to aisle after aisle of unhealthy temptations at the supermarket, challenges seem to pop up at every turn, making it difficult for even the most committed dieter to stay 100% on track. Luckily, there are some things you can do to take control and boost your weight loss efforts without a whole lot of change or effort on your part.
Dieting is tough enough. Add stress to the mix, and you may go from feeling “on edge” to crossing the line completely, reaching for the nearest bag of chips or chocolate bar to cope. That’s why stress management is a key part of any weight-loss plan. Stress increases appetite—and weight gain. When you utilize healthy coping techniques, it’s much more likely that you’ll stay on track and reach your weight-loss goals.
“The secret of achievement is to hold a picture of a successful outcome in the mind.” – Henry David Thoreau
There are many forms of motivation, but the one I find most effective is visualization. If you have ever spoken in public and pictured the audience in their underwear, you know the power of visualization. So if you’re dying to get into your pre-pregnancy pants, pull those suckers out of the closet and use them to push you through your get-fit journey. I have a few other ways visualizing your success can really pay off, so keep reading. Read more →
