Reluctant to try resistance training? Many women think it will make them look too muscular or that their routines are tough enough without it. But strength-building exercises are a smart addition to a healthy fitness plan, and they can be easily incorporated into anyone’s weekly workout. In fact, two to three 20-minute sessions a week are really all you need to start seeing benefits!
Athletes tend to be focused on meeting goals, crossing finish lines and winning the game. They’re driven, motivated, hardworking individuals who press boundaries to reap rewards. All the physical activity often hits their bodies hard, causing issues from achy muscles to blisters to dehydration. They have special skincare needs, too, and may need to care for their complexions a bit differently than others.
Today, as I was driving down the street listening to my littlest cackling at the movie she was watching from the back seat (don’t judge me, my moments of peace are few and far between), my mind wandered to the day I met my husband. My first thought was, “I don’t ever want to forget how amazing that day felt.”
Remember the days when bending down to touch your toes was as easy as…that? Now that you’re older, moving your body in certain ways may be trickier, especially if you’re not active or haven’t spent much time stretching over the years. I grew up involved in cheerleading and gymnastics, so bending and stretching was a part of my normal routine. But today, flexibility is something I work on maintaining—not because I’m still cheering sports teams from the sidelines, but because staying flexible is good for my health.
Q. My skin is super sensitive. Which ingredients should I be sure to avoid?

Redness, stinging, burning, itching—not ways we want to describe our skin, but for many people skin sensitivities can be a daily struggle. Dermatologists classify sensitive skin as skin that has pustules, bumps or skin erosion, and it can be very dry, not properly protecting nerve endings within the skin. Genetic factors such as age, gender and race play a role in causing skin reactions, and therefore sensitivities can vary from person to person. Sensitive skin types can also have a tendency toward blushing for various reasons.
Getting enough protein can be tough when you’re a vegetarian, especially if you’re on the strict side and fish, eggs or dairy (in addition to beef and chicken) are on the list of foods you don’t eat. Being a vegetarian athlete or active person makes things even trickier because your daily protein needs are going to be higher than those of someone who does not exercise regularly. Although the recommended daily intake of protein varies depending on your age, gender and weight, it’s said active individuals should aim for about a gram of protein per pound of body weight daily.
Q: What is the best way to treat already-formed, deep wrinkles? Can topical products really help?

Wrinkles are an inevitable part of the aging processes. As we get older, fine lines and wrinkles start to form on the skin, and the battle for a youthful appearance begins. As Mark Twain once said, “Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.” This is true; but we all get wrinkles, and they appear on the skin for a whole host of reasons.
