Recipe books by the dozens have been written about how to sneak healthy ingredients into your recipes – undetected. I prefer a slightly different approach, in that I get true joy out of watching my kids’ faces turn purple when I tell them I put kale in their smoothie AFTER they have already finished it. Good times.
Anyway, if you’re not so concerned on the “sneaky” element, but looking more for “ridiculously easy” ingredients to make your meals healthier, give these a go.
Today, as I was driving down the street listening to my littlest cackling at the movie she was watching from the back seat (don’t judge me, my moments of peace are few and far between), my mind wandered to the day I met my husband. My first thought was, “I don’t ever want to forget how amazing that day felt.”
Pumpkin is one of my favorite fall flavors. I love almost any baked good with pumpkin in it – pie, muffins, bread – but this year I wanted to add a new recipe to my repertoire. And boy did I find it! This delicious pumpkin soufflé is light, fluffy and can be made entirely organic. These individual soufflés are also a great way to change up your regular holiday menu.
OK, you and I may not want to admit it, but fall is upon us. Even though we aren’t brandishing our bare skin in this cooler weather, we can keep our sexy summer skin – even under our sweaters. With my patented (no, not really) three-step routine of “polish-primp-pamper” you will have healthy, glowing, supple skin all season long.
Even though we’re a mostly organic household, my kids are not immune to the marketing and advertising ploys of the big pre-packaged food companies out there. Not a grocery trip goes by where I don’t hear, “Mom, can we pleeeeeaaaase get this!” I’m working on teaching them how to find the healthy alternative to the chemical and dye filled kids’ snacks on the shelves today. So I’m coaching them through label reading and the difference between “natural” and “organic.”
When I decided I wanted to have a third child, I knew I was increasing the monthly budget needed to support ourselves as a family, but I didn’t take into account the side stuff, like birthday parties. Birthday parties have taken on a life of their own around here. I liken them to miniature Oscar parties, complete with swag bags and catered buffet. But I propose a move back to the basics.
