It’s no secret that stress can put you in a not-so-friendly mood. But next time you’re feeling frazzled, you may want to rely on an old childhood habit to help you calm down.

New research suggests that popping a piece of gum may help promote a positive mood.

Yep, that same chewing gum that got in trouble during science class can help you deal with the stresses of adult life!

Two studies, conducted on university faculty and students, explored the effects of gum chewing on stress at work, at school and at home.

Participants reported a reduction in stress, anxiety and fatigue, as well as a boost in performance. Results also suggested that perceived stress levels decreased in conjunction with increased gum chewing.
