Angelica is a short-lived flowering plant common to both Europe and the Americas. The Chinese version is called Dong Quai, the flower, root and stems of which are not only consumed as foods, but also used to relax the uterus in childbirth.
Dong Quai has been used as an aphrodisiac for centuries and may have been responsible for the first one night stand as we know it. Back then, it was a little Dong Quai in the salad or in sweets around the time of the Ming Dynasty. We have our theories, but we're not quite sure.
We do know this. Dong Quai may benefit hot flashes, moodiness and cramps. It's a strengthener of the heart, lungs, liver and spleen and is a tonic for healthy blood. When used as directed, Dong Quai may make you feel warm all over, relaxed and ready to rumble in the sack.
