I will be the first to confess that I love soda. Years ago I made the switch to diet soda, thinking that I would save myself a few hundred calories per day. I usually drink only one or two cans of diet soda a day, but I began to wonder, is that even too much? Is diet soda really as terrible as some health professionals claim it to be?
Well, the news is not good at all. I discovered that not only does diet soda encourage a dependence on caffeine, it can actually promote weight gain. Some studies have found that the artificial sweeteners used in diet sodas can actually increase appetite! Artificial sweeteners (all of them) have many adverse side effects including headaches, weakening of bones, mood swings, dizziness and depression.
So I decided to give up diet soda. But there is only so much water that one person can drink. So what is a healthy (and tasty) alternative? Well, I discovered green tea. There are hundreds of flavors of green tea, and it tastes great hot or cold. My favorites are Celestial Seasonings Tropical Acai Berry Green Tea, and Yogi Green Tea Rejuvenation. Green Tea is full of antioxidants that can help keep your heart healthy and encourage weight loss. No more diet soda for me… how about you?
